Database/GIS Specialist - Oakland, CA

Job Description: Northgate Environmental Management, Inc., an environmental science and engineering firm headquartered in Oakland, California, is recruiting for a database manager and visualization specialist, with an emphasis on geographic information systems (GIS). The ideal candidate for this position has the skills and willingness to apply knowledge to a variety of environmental projects, including environmental investigations, characterization, remediation, and forensic analyses. Responsibilities will include design, implementation, enhancement, and administration of ArcGIS projects and relational databases; design and production of a wide variety of data visualizations, maps, and cross-sections; design and production of data queries and tables; collaborating on new data development, storage, and reporting capabilities, ensuring consistency and integration with existing databases; data quality review and validation; and participating in continuous improvement efforts and performing proactive maintenance. Applicants should be well-organized, professional, and possess excellent verbal skills suitable for subcontractor or client interface. We are seeking a highly motivated self-starter who can prioritize duties as needed in a fast-paced environment.
Minimum Applicant Requirements:
• Bachelors degree in Geography or Earth Sciences, or related field such as Geology, Biology, Civil/Environmental Engineering, Computer Science with relevant experience and GIS Certification
• 3 to 7 years of related job experience related to GIS software, GIS database, and database administration (MS Access, SQL, EQuIS)
• Familiarity with environmental sampling and analysis design and electronic chemical data deliverable formats
• Personable and good verbal and written communication skills (high proficiency in English required)
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and Adobe Acrobat
• Self-starter, resourceful, and eager to learn, with the ability to work productively on multiple projects concurrently under strict deadlines and budgets
• Strong attention to detail, with excellent analytical judgment and problem-solving capabilities
• Programming, statistical evaluation, and basic IT skills are strongly desirable
Salary: $60K to $80K, based on experience/expertise
