    You’re invited ……. to the fourth annual CGIA GeoSummit at UC Merced on Friday, March 14th, 8:30 am – 3:30 pm in the California Room.

    “GIS…integrating your community, world, life – The Application of GIS”

     

    As part of CGIA’s outreach initiative, we have again partnered with UC Merced to present a day filled with amazing speakers on the application of GIS. This event brings together state and regional GIS experts, educators, graduate students, and faculty using GIS in their research, in addition to community members with an interest in GIS. This year’s event features speakers from all walks of GIS to share their work and research using the latest in GIS technology to understand and address local, regional, and statewide concerns. Speakersthis year include:

    • Keynote Speaker: Paul Doherty, ESRI, Disaster Response Program
    • Scott Gregory, GIO, State of California
    • Harold Feinberg, DOT, State of California
    • Jared Rutledge, Fresno County Epidemiologist
    • Sonja Thiede, Resource Analyst, Kings River Conservation District
    • Jeff Orton, GIS Coordinator, Paramount Citrus
    • Laurie Maak, Green 360
    • John Minkler, ACEL Charter School

    In addition to the speakers, we are having a map gallery and encourage attendees to bring maps for display. At the end of the event there will be tours of the new UC Merced Spatial Analysis and Research Center lab (SpARC).

    This is a great day to spend at the beautiful UC Merced campus, all about GIS. So whether you are new to GIS, would like to learn more about it and how it affects you, or a seasoned practitioner, this is a great event to attend. We hope you will join us.

    Last year, USGIF granted 25 young professionals the exclusive opportunity to attend the GEOINT Symposium for free and participate in YPG-only activities that included a mentoring luncheon, special exhibit hall tours, and an invitation to the VIP Chairman's reception where they got to talk with NGA Director Letitia Long.
    USGIF is now accepting applications and nominations for this year's GEOINT Symposium Young Professionals Program. The Foundation will select up to 25 individuals to receive the "Golden Ticket." In order to qualify, applicants must agree to fully participate in all activities specified  Participants must be able to attend the entire GEOINT 2013 Symposium, beginningSunday, October 13, and ending the evening of Wednesday, October 16The exact Young Professional Program agenda is being finalized but will be available in August. Previous "Golden Ticket" recipients are not eligible for selection. Selected individuals will be responsible for their own travel and hotel accommodations.
    To apply for this exclusive opportunity, email ypg@usgif.org by 5 p.m. EST, August 5 with your name, title, organization, date of birth, and a letter of support from your supervisor. This information should be accompanied by responses to the following questions:
    1. What is your current position at your organization?
    2. How many years have you been in the GEOINT Community?
    3. What was your college major?
    4. Have you or do you currently serve in the military?
    5. Is this your first time at the GEOINT Symposium, and if not how many have you attended?

    educators, and more, SCGIS is a diverse group of professionals dedicated to
